We are not anti-American — LiveJournal

Feb. 2nd, 2007 @ 04:43 pm
Sat on the beach in Cuba last week, I collected a whole stack of stupid to share which were all outclassed by this gem. Now, try hard and keep in your mind that this was Cuba and that Americans really aren't supposed to be out there.

An American woman (accent was Texas or Louisianna I'd guess) turned to her husband and said : "Just think... We could have been in Cuba by now."

I wonder where she thought she was.

15 aliens arrested at Roswell Sep. 3rd, 2006 @ 09:58 am
ICE arrests 15 aliens in Roswell working for U.S. military contractor

"ROSWELL, N.M. - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents today arrested 15 illegal aliens who were working for a local company here that is under contract to paint U.S. military aircraft, including Lockheed C-130 military aircraft.

"Some of the aliens were in the process of painting these aircraft when they were arrested."
Do you think anyone actually reads press releases before they're published?

Ok, so I'm technically not British. However, as a Canadian, I am a member of the British Commonwealth, I suppose that must count for something.

Canada is in a rather unique position as far as dealing with the Excited States of America, particularly with the Bush administration. It's rather like the horrible fascination one has while watching the village idiot play with dynamite and blasting caps - you know what is going to happen, it's just a matter of where, when and how many people he will take along when it does.

I am constantly amazed by the the stream of ambassadors the American Gov't sends to Canada, most of whom I doubt could have located this country on an unmarked map prior to their appointment.

For a good look at how most of us viewed the last one - Paul Cellucci - go here http://www.cbc.ca/mercerreport/backissues.html and choose "A Tribute to America's Ambassador to Canada".

Then there is the so-called "Free Trade Agreement", but that is fodder for another rant.

Hi! I'm a yank.. okay, that sounds weird.. I'm American, and I just have to say that I don't blame you at all for starting this group. I think it's disgusting the way SOME Americans have given ALL Americans a bad name... especially in recent years. Namely good ol' George W. he's an idiot. There I said it... I voted for the other guy and I am sickened by the fact that he got voted for A SECOND TERM! The question is, can we survive three more years?!?! This War for one thing... Did you know that way back before he was "elected" (I use that term loosely,he didn't actually win the vote. Popularity was for Gore, but he won because Florida had to re-count... now lets think... who is the governor there? Oh YEAH!!! It's his BROTHER!!! we all know that he rigged the ballots)he said, in so many words, that he wanted a war? He wanted to take Saddam out of power before his election!!! and now he's got it, and there's no end in site as long as he's running this country! Oh, and don't get me started on the way he has handled foreign affairs, not to mention the way he's turning this country into a dictatorship. It's so frustrating living in a "Democracy" and yet, my voice is not heard. I am not the only one. there are so many here who are so disgusted with the way things are going. Remember, that we're not all idiots, we just can't afford to move away! Honestly I've wanted to visit the UK for all my life, but I don't have the funds to do it, and I probably never will. I guess watching Dr. Who and Red Dwarf will have to be as close as I ever get.
» Another Yank poking about here.
Hope no one minds at all. Just a drifter of conscious inside a sea of sheep and morons (that wasn't ment to offend the sheep in any way, cattle would probably make a better metaphor).

Anyhoo, I tend to agree with the vast majority of the things being stated here, so I thought it would be interesting to toss in my own opinion every once in awhile. Firstly, yes, I do understand that there is a greater world out there, one with increadible beauty and culture, one I wouldn't mind getting to know. Secondly, American culture has become so very... I really can't think of the proper word to grasp the situation completely. Television has become a complete waste of time, and the cinema just gobbles up monies that could have been used to perform the same thing, like a lobotomy, but possibly more expensive, consitering ticket and condiment prices. Lastly, there are many a time when I commit a terrible crime to you people on the other side of the pond, I tell people I'm one of you, because I don't want to be associated with one of them.

Ah well, I can cry at the terrible movie form of Hitchhiker and wonder why American comedians can't grasp the simple idea of sarcasm, and lighten up on the fecal jokes (A little toilet humour is alright, but one cannot over do it, it makes it, well, stupid).

Anyway, I hope I'm not causing too much of a ruckus here, and I hope not too many Americisms slip off my fingers and unto the keys.

Questions sent to Canada after Vancouver got the 2010 Olympics:

Q: I have never seen it warm on Canadian TV, so how do the plants grow? (UK)
A: We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around and watch them die.

Q: Will I be able to see Polar Bears in the street? (USA)
A: Depends on how much you've been drinking.

Q: I want to walk from Vancouver to Toronto - can I follow the railroad tracks? (Sweden)
A: Sure, it's only four thousand miles; take lots of water.

1) "If it doesn't have a copyright notice, it's not

This was true in the past, but today almost all major
nations follow the Berne copyright convention. For example,
in the USA, almost everything created privately and originally after April 1,
1989 is copyrighted and protected whether it has a notice or not.
The default you should assume for other people's works is that
they are copyrighted and may not be copied unless you know
otherwise. There are some old works that lost protection
without notice, but frankly you should not risk it unless
you know for sure.

Oh my god..learn some grammar!!
